Commercial Electrical Installation: Projet Overview
Operating as a commercial electrical contractor in San Antonio TX, All Star Electric is consulted to design the commercial electrical installation for a new take-out restaurant project that would be built downtown.
The restaurant space will be 1,800 sq. ft., including a main floor, a counter area, and a galley located behind a half-height separation wall.
The project involves the installation of a comprehensive electrical system, LED lighting, electrical panels, a security system, a fire alarm/detection system, and the installation of four refrigerated displays.
Commercial Electrical Installation: Scope of Work
Lighting
We propose to install high-efficiency LED lighting throughout the space. We recommend using a combination of LED downlights for general lighting and LED strip lights for accent lighting in the display areas. The exact number and spacing of the LED lights will be calculated based on the area’s dimensions and the intensity required. The target luminosity values will be 500 lux for the main room and 750 lux for the galley to ensure a brightly lit environment conducive to food preparation.
Electrical Panels
We will install electrical panels next to the back door on the galley-side. These panels will be easily accessible for maintenance and will comply with all local building and electrical codes in San Antonio.
Outside Signage
We will install a large LED backlit sign for the restaurant. The sign will be wired to the main electrical system and will include a timer for automatic on/off control.
Front Window Lighting
We will install LED strip lights around the large window bay to attract attention from the street. These lights will be connected to the main electrical system and controlled separately for flexibility.
Safety Signage
We will install LED-lit safety signs over the front and back doors. These signs will be connected to the main electrical system and will remain lit whenever the restaurant is open.
Security Lighting
We will install LED security lights on the rear outside wall. These lights will be motion-activated and will provide illumination for the security cameras.
Security System
As part of this commercial electrical installation project, we propose setting up a comprehensive security system that includes CCTV cameras and motion detectors. We recommend using a combination of dome cameras for general surveillance and bullet cameras for specific areas like the cash register. One camera will be facing the front door and mounted on the separation wall behind the cash register, and one next to the back door covering the galley. Additionally, we will install motion detectors on both doors and a glass breakage detector on the front window pane.
Fire Alarm/Detection System
We propose installing a conventional fire alarm system, which is cost-effective and suitable for small to medium-sized establishments. We will install three fire alarm sensors, equally distributed and ceiling-mounted. The galley sensor will be a heat detector to avoid false alarms due to kitchen activities.
Food Displays
We will install four True TGM-DC-77-SCSC-W-W food displays. These units require 7 Amps, 115 Volts each. We will ensure that these units are installed correctly and their LED lighting system is included in the total load.
Wall-mounted menu display monitor
In this type of commercial electrical installation, it is important that key features such as the menu be extremely visible from everywhere in the restaurant. We will securely mount a large display monitor on the designated wall, next to the point-of-sale register. Our team will ensure that the monitor is positioned at an optimal height and angle for easy viewing by customers.
The monitor will require a dedicated circuit to ensure its proper operation. We will run the necessary wiring from the electrical panel to the location of the monitor. This wiring will be concealed to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the restaurant.
If the monitor requires internet or network connectivity for menu updates, we will run the necessary network cabling. We will coordinate with your internet service provider or IT team to ensure proper setup and connectivity.
Circuitry
The galley ovens will be on a three-phase circuit. The fire alarm system will be battery-backed and on a separate circuit.
Cable and Wire Routing
We will use surface-mounted conduit for areas where cables and wires are exposed. This will provide protection for the cables and allow for easy access for future maintenance or upgrades. In concealed areas, we will use in-wall cable routing.
Cable and Wire Sizing
We will use 12-gauge wire for lighting circuits and 10-gauge wire for the high-load appliances such as the ovens and refrigerated displays. All wiring will be copper, which is highly conductive and resistant to corrosion.

The project would be completed within one month from the date of project signature.
